World Heritage Day – Monday 18 April 2022
World Heritage Day
Monday is World Heritage Day (originally known as the International Monuments and Sites Day), which is a global celebration of the world’s cultural and natural heritage.
Cultural monuments and natural treasures are assets for all around the world, but they need protection to ensure they can continue to be enjoyed by generations to come. World Heritage Day is a collective awareness raising effort joined by communities world-wide.
World Heritage Day was first established by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1982 and was adopted by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in 1998. Each year has a theme and the ICOMOS suggestion for 2022 is ‘Heritage and Climate’ - please see International Day for Monuments and Sites - 18 April 2022
